100 Must-visit Tourist spots of Korea 2019 - 2020

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced “100 Must-visit Tourist spots of Korea” along with the Korea Tourism Organization. “100 Must-visit Tourist spots of Korea” is a project to select 100 outstanding tourist destinations that Koreans must visit every two years and promote them both local and overseas tourists.

The “100 Must-visit Tourist spots of Korea” is distributed in 26 metropolitan areas (Seoul & Gyeonggi), 13 in Gangwon Province, 10 in Chungcheong Province, 14 in Jeollanam-do, 28 in Gyeongsang Province and nine in Jeju.

There are a total of 21 tourist attractions selected for the first time on the list.

It is not only the tourist attractions of major cities such as Busan Marine City which has a beautiful night view and Seoullo 7017 that was reborn as a famous walking spot but also succeeded in entering the first sightseeing spot which is harmonized with nature such as Wonju Ganhyeon Rocking Bridge and Danyang Mancheonha Skywalk did. Daegu Seomun Market and Gwangju Hwadam Forest in Gyeonggi Province have been selected as ‘100 Must-visit Tourist spots of Korea’ following the ‘2017 Korea Tourism Awards’.

Since the “100 Must-visit Tourist spots of Korea” was announced for the first time in 2013, there have been many tourist destinations that have been open to the public. 23 places, including traditional cultural resources, including Jeonju Hanok Village, Gyeongju Bulguksa/Seokguram, Baekje Historic Areas, Mt. Seoraksan and Mt. Hallasan, have been honored for being selected 4 times in a row.

There are 34 tourist attractions selected 3 times for the “100 Must-visit Tourist spots of Korea”, and 22 tourist attractions including Mt. Gyejoksan Hwangtogil Trail, Damyang Juknokwon and Namhae German Village were selected 3 times in a row.

Jeonju Hanok Village

The selection of the “100 Must-visit Tourist spots of Korea” was started by finding twice as many potential candidates as possible through the assessment of the previous “100 Must-visit Tourist spots of Korea”, a recommendation of the local government, and analysis of the big data. Afterward, the first written assessment (justice and quantity), the second on-site assessment, and the third final selection committee will review and decide on the “100 Must-visit Tourist spots of Korea.” The evaluation is conducted by 13 experts from academia, travel industry, travel journalists, writers, and community groups, and by utilizing large data from mobile telecommunication companies.
