BIGBANG's Taeyang, Daesung discharged from military

Taeyang and Daesung of K-pop boy band BIGBANG returned to civilian life on Sunday.

The two had a discharge ceremony on Sunday morning in front of the Ground Operations Command in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. Thousands of international fans greeted the singers.

“I still can’t believe I am discharged from the military,” Taeyang, 31, said. “I think I had a meaningful time (there.) I want to thank my brothers in arms and the military officials who guided me during my 20-month service.”

Daesung, 30, said: “While being enlisted, I felt a lot of things that I couldn’t when I was outside the army. I also learnt ways to understand other people’s minds. I would like to express love and gratitude to my fellow soldiers and the military officers who are defending our country even now.”

Taeyang also hinted at the group’s future, saying BIGBANG members will have a discussion.

“We want to pay you back with rocking performances,” he said.

As of Sunday, all BIGBANG members ― G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang and Daesung ― have finished their obligatory military service. But the band’s agency YG Entertainment has not yet revealed details of the group’s future.

The group debuted with five members in 2006, but the youngest, Seungri, left in March this year after a nightclub affiliated with him was mired in a various scandals involving drugs and sex crimes.
