Busan will begin to diversify tourism market targeting Muslims from the new year

Busan City announced on January 16th that it plans to promote Muslim tourists’ strategies such as local publicity and marketing reflecting the characteristics of Muslim countries, creating a Muslim friendly environment and improving awareness of Muslim tourists.

Busan plans to expand its tourism market to India, Turkey and the Middle East in the long term by targeting tourists from Indonesia and Malaysia who have a large Muslim population and a high percentage of visitors to Korea in the short term.

In order to attract individual tourists, they will hold booths in Malaysia and Indonesia. Busan will hold a briefing session with the local tourism industry and media to develop customized tour packages for Muslims.

For the convenience of Muslim tourists, Busan will distribute coupon guidebooks for individual tourists and will expand the number of Muslim-friendly restaurants from 7 places to 23 this year. The Muslim-friendly restaurant supports consulting and expenses for Halal restaurant certification.

Muslims will also have a briefing on the Busan tour in Busan, Muslims studying in the tourism industry and civil servants.

An official from Busan said, “Muslims make up a Muslim-friendly environment such as a Muslim-friendly restaurant and a prayer room to revitalize the tourist market in Busan”, saying that Muslims occupy a quarter of the world’s population and tourism spending reaches 12.5%.”
