G-Dragon under fire after being accused of animal cruelty

G-Dragon, the leader of K-pop boy band Big Bang, is accused of neglecting his pet dogs at his hotel, which is operated by his parents.

The accusation was raised when a user posted pictures of the artist’s two Shar-Pei breed pets ― Gaho and Jolie ― on an online community earlier this month. The pictures showed the dogs with long nails and locked inside fences.

The user wrote that the dogs did not seem to have been taken care of for a long time. “Their eyes were watering from their eyelashes poking inward,” the post said. These recent pictures of the dogs shocked fans, as the pets have been popular among the star’s fans since the adoption. G-Dragon has made several appearances with Gaho, including at a music award and in the music video for “Breathe” in 2009.

Many criticized the star, pointing out that the Shar-Pei breeds are especially sensitive to raise. Skin irritation and deformed eyelids are common, requiring extra care and treatment. “A Shar-Pei is sensitive to cold and hot temperature and has extremely sensitive skin, but (the star’s dogs) are being raised outside,” a user wrote on social media. Another user wrote, “The back nails can be naturally worn down if the dog had been out on walk regularly.”

However, despite growing criticism, neither the star nor his agency YG Entertainment has commented on the accusation.
