Ji Chang-wook, Kim Ji-won to star in romantic comedy series

Actor Ji Chang-wook and actress Kim Ji-won have taken the lead roles in the first season of the upcoming web series “City Couple’s Way of Love.”

Streaming service KakaoTV announced Monday that the stars had confirmed the roles for the series, which is expected to be released later this year.

Directed by Park Shin-woo, director of the hit series “It’s Okay to Not be Okay” and “Don’t Dare to Dream,” the web drama will be a series of standalone stories about young adults and their romance in a hustling city.

The series is written by Jung Hyun-jung, known for popular romantic comedy series such as “I Need Romance” and “Discovery of Love.”

In the series’ first story, Ji will play a passionate architecture Jae-won and Kim will play a marketing specialist Eun-oh. After a short encounter, Jae-won becomes intrigued by the free-spirited woman.

“I’ve always wanted to work with writer Jung and director Park, so I’m thrilled finally to work with them,” Ji said. “As this is my first series on a new platform and format, I hope many people can take interest in it.”

Kim added that she would be showing a new side through the character. “I hope this (series) can entertain people in this tough period,” she said.

Ji starred in the romantic TV comedy series “Backstreet Rookie” which ended last month, and recently finished shooting a film “Black Call.”

Kim was slated to shoot the second season of 2019 fantasy drama “Arthdal Chronicles” this year. But production was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
