K-pop stars doing on Korean Chuseok holiday

The Korean Chuseok holiday ― the three-day harvest festival to be celebrated from Sept. 23 to 25 this year ― is when most Koreans visit their families or hometowns. Some K-pop idols, who normally overwork themselves on tight schedules, will take some time to spend with their families and relax, while others will continue with their relentless schedules.

A handful of popular K-pop idols ― TWICE, BLACKPINK, Sunmi and Monsta X ― will take a break during the Chuseok holiday. The nine-member K-pop group TWICE doesn’t have an official schedule planned during the holiday. But they might find the time to get together and practice for their first Arena Tour 2018 “BDZ” scheduled to start in Japan Sept. 29.

BLACKPINK, the K-pop girl group fastest to reach the milestone of 400 million views on YouTube as of Sept. 21, with their “As If It’s Your Last” music video, will also enjoy family time during the holiday. After taking a break, they will prepare for their first solo concert “BLACKPINK 2018 TOUR [IN YOUR AREA] SEOUL X BC CARD” scheduled for Nov.10 and 11 at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul.

Sunmi, who was taken to hospital due to dizziness during the recording of “Music Bank” on Sept. 14, has work scheduled in Los Angeles on the Chuseok holiday but plans on resting for the next two days. Scheduled to perform on KCON 2018 Thailand on Sept. 29, she will spend time practicing.

K-pop boy band Monsta X, who recently wrapped up their promotional activities for their fourth single “LIVIN’ IT UP” in Japan, will take a full break during Chuseok. “Their schedules have been cleared for them to take a break and recharge themselves,” a Starship Entertainment official said.

But global K-pop boy bands GOT7 and BTS will still be busy during the holiday.

GOT7, who recently made a comeback with their third studio album “Present: YOU,” will be busy promoting their new album and holding a fan signing event.

According to local media reports, BTS is scheduled to make a three-minute speech at the United Nations.

The K-pop act will attend a ceremony for Generation Unlimited, a new global partnership by the United Nations Children’s Fund on Monday at the U.N. headquarters in New York, a day before the 73rd session of the U.N. General Assembly begins.

While in New York, BTS will also appear on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Sept. 25 and “Good Morning America” on Sept. 26. They will then hold Tri-State Area concerts at New Jersey’s Prudential Center on Sept. 28 and 29.
