Let's try Korean Taekwondo - no previous experience required

Taekwondo is Korea’s homegrown martial art. It is known for its special emphasis on various kicking techniques, which distinguishes taekwondo from other Asian martial arts, including karate.

Ever since the Sydney Olympics in 2000, taekwondo has been recognized as an official sport at the Olympic Games and a world martial art.

It is a healthy, dynamic and exciting sport loved by not only Koreans but also currently practiced by some 70 million people in 188 countries. There are over 100,000 taekwondo training centers around the world.

That number continues to grow because the activity is known to improve physical ability, as well as mental strength.

To meet the needs of people who may come to Korea to see and experience more of the martial art, the City of Seoul and Kukkiwon, the country’s official organization overseeing taekwondo instruction in Korea, has regularly been offering taekwondo demonstrations and experience programs since 2007 to give visitors and residents to learn more about this amazing martial art.

This year, the Taekwondo Cultural Performance and the Taekwondo Program for Foreigners are back with new and improved programs.

The Taekwondo Program for Foreigners

A program that offers a chance for non-Koreans to try taekwondo is offered every day except weekend at Arirang Taekwondo, located in Yongsan, Seoul.

Participants can borrow a taekwondo uniform for free and learn basic patterns, pick up some self-defense maneuvers and break a few bricks under the guidance of English-speaking taekwondo masters.

Classe is held once a day, from 16:00 to 17:00 (Mon to Fri), and class lasts about an hour and can accommodate up to 40 people.

The class started with meditation, stretching and the basic move of Taekwondo. Participants can experience all basic moves with kicking and even smash a pine board.

Upon completion of the class, participants will be given a taekwondo certificate. You can book your own session through online below;
