Quick Trip at Dongdaemun Design Plaza - Sarah's Korea Trip

We decided to take a stroll to burn all those street food we ate. Plus we want to make the most out of the remaining time before we rest and call it a night. We decided to take a quick trip to Dongdaemun. The cheapest way to get to Dongdaemun is via subway. From Myeongdong station, take Line 4 to get to Dongdaemun. It will take you about 10 minutes. Once you go out of the subway, you will be at the Dongdaemun. This district is alive at night with all the shops and malls around that are open until the wee hours in the morning. But the real highlight of this place is the unique, neo-futuristic architectural masterpiece by renowned architect, Zaha Hadid: the Dongdaemun Design Plaza.

Right at the center of the Dongdaemun History and Culture Park, this spaceship-like monolith is hard to miss. The building is designed to be a cultural hub in one of Seoul’s historical and fashion district. It houses designer shops, art galleries, exhibition halls, and a media center. Since it was already late at night, we didn’t get to explore the interior of DDP. We just walked around and did a few photo ops.

A few short walks from DDP, you get to see the garden where the 10,000 LED roses are displayed.

Tired from our flight, we decided to call it a night and went back to our hostel.

That ends our first day in Seoul. On the upcoming posts, I will share our Day 2 of our Seoul adventure. It is all about tradition and culture so please do look forward to those posts.
