The second annual DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) Peace Train Music Festival, slated from June 5-9 in Seoul and Cheorwon-gun County, Gangwon-do Province, will maintain the momentum or inter-Korean peace that was fostered by last year’s PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
A peace-themed international conference and showcase in Seoul will start the festival from June 5-6 at the cultural complex Platform Chang Dong 61. The opening performance on June 7 will be held at the former Korean Workers Party Office, Registered Cultural Property No. 22, in Cheorwon-gun.
This year’s festival seeks to encourage freedom and peace by overcoming differences in nationality, politics and ideology. Thirty-six acts from 12 countries will participate this year, up from 34 from seven countries last year.
Slated to perform are John Cale of the American classic rock band Velvet Underground, Korean-Chinese rocker Cui Jian, whose song was the unofficial anthem of the pro-democracy movement in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square in 1989, Nigerian musician Seun Kuti and his father Fela, Jeong Tae-chun, a Korean singer who marks his 40th anniversary in music this year, and the Korean indie band Hyukoh.
