Squid Game Season 2 Confirmed
The original Korean drama “Squid Game,” the biggest series in Netflix history, will be back for a second season, the show’s writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk has officially said for the first time.
In an interview with The Associated Press on Nov. 8 at a promotional event for the show in Los Angeles, Hwang said, “There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season,” adding, “I almost feel like you leave us no choice.”
The final scene of the series’ first season had an open ending that implied the beginning of a new incident and the production crew has hinted at the possibility of a second season, raising expectations of Season 2. Yet this is the first time for the drama’s creator to officially confirm that another season is coming.
“It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen,” he said.
“I will promise you this, Gi-hun will be back and he’ll do something for the world.”
The drama was viewed by 140 million Netflix accounts a month after its release, making it the streaming service’s most-viewed original series.
The report added that the drama’s success has given its stars global recognition.
