Gyeongbokgung Palace
Korea’s National Historic Site No. 117
Built in 1395, Gyeongbokgung Palace is also commonly referred to as the Northern Palace because its location is furthest north when compared to the neighboring palaces of Changdeokgung (Eastern Palace) and Gyeonghuigung (Western Palace) Palace. Gyeongbokgung Palace is arguably the most beautiful, and remains the largest of all five palaces.
The premises were once destroyed by fire during the Imjin War (Japanese Invasions, 1592-1598). However, all of the palace buildings were later restored under the leadership of Heungseondaewongun during the reign of King Gojong (1852-1919).
Remarkably, the most representative edifices of the Joseon Dynasty, Gyeonghoeru Pavilion and Hyangwonjeong Pond have remained relatively intact. Woldae and the sculptures of Geunjeongjeon (The Royal Audience Chamber) represent past sculptures of contemporary art.
The National Palace Museum of Korea is located south of Heungnyemun Gate, and the National Folk Museum is located on the eastern side within Hyangwonjeong.
“In photography, there is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality.”
“Photography, as we all know, is not real at all. It is an illusion of reality with which we create our own private world.”
“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”
“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”
“The world is always running away from society and the only way to keep the stuff that’s happened in the past is by taking photographs, I can keep memories of things alive with photographs,” Alecto responded. “People say that the time machine can’t be invented, but they’ve already invented a device that can stop time, photographs are the world’s first-time machines.”
Taking the time to take real photographs can enhance your travel experience in several ways:
1) Photography makes you more aware of your surroundings.
Once you begin looking for photos, you see much more of the world than if you are just walking through it.
2) Photos help you remember.
Despite the conclusion of the Smithsonian Magazine article, the real test of a photo’s ability to help you remember doesn’t come the day after you take it; it comes years later. As time passes, you need things to jog your memory and nothing works better than photos that you took yourself.
3) People will actually want to see your vacation photos.
Most people are bored to tears of vacation photos that are nothing more than endless shots of people in front of landmarks. Most people don’t want to see you on vacation; they are more interested in the destination itself. If you focus on taking better images, people will actually be interested in seeing your photos.

Highly recommend it! We had a wonderful shooting with Daniel. He is super professional, friendly and accommodating to our requests. Would def. do another activity with HaB Korea next time we visit.
Our trip to South Korea felt like a dream! ✨
I couldn’t have asked for anything more: a memorable trip to the motherland with my beautiful mom and my wonderful husband!
There’s just so much to share about this trip with my two greatest loves, but suffice it to say: I am eternally grateful for my family. 💕 Such precious memories were made and will last a lifetime!
I will forever be in awe of my mom who exudes grace & beauty in her aging and resiliency.
I will forever be thankful for my loving & patient husband who loves and cares for my mom as much as I do. 🥺🫶❤️
I really enjoyed the experience and even bought another package afterwards. However, there are some tips/advice I would like to share.
– Contact HaBKorea and confirm the details in advance. Daniel is really responsive and will let you know any change. I didn’t realize that the makeup comes first at Lala Hong, then go to Hanboknam to rent the hanbok, then photoshooting.
– It’s easy to find the building of Lala Hong Makeup, but the unit is way inside. Keep going until you find it. I really like the natural look. It takes around 1 hour.
– Hanboknam staff didn’t recognize HabKorea voucher when I presented, but they took it and let me follow the process. Make sure you have the printout with you. (for this reason, I bought another package only with makeup and photoshoot – I would recommend that one too, so you are not fixed to Hanboknam only.)
– My photographer Ms. Jeon is really friendly and suggested how to pose. The shooting took around 1 hour and I got hundreds of photos 2 days afterward. She is not fluent on English, but there was no issue. We both use translation app.
My friends all complimented the photos, so I think it’s really worth it. Highly recommend.
it is very satisfactory. The hanbok is very beautiful, the hair styling and makeup suits the dress perfectly. Above all, the photographer Martin is very nice and took very memorable and beautiful photos for us. They all speak very good English so we have no difficulty in communication.
Thank you so much for a wonderful experience!
Our photographer, Ms. Shim, was so nice to work with. She was very sweet and took beautiful photos of me and my friend, and we are very happy with the experience and are so glad that we have the photos of our first trip.
